Why such a wide range of values? BGT
Discussion
My golf decided it would stall every time it came to idle this morning, and as its very boring I turned to ebay to look for anything dirt cheap as a replacement. Far more exciting than spending 2 seconds fixing it :P
Thoughts turned to an MGB as i saw one fairly local to me with no reserve, t&t, no bids and a day left to go.
Can't seriously go for that im thinking, but a completed items search suggests that every now and then, yep, reasonable BGTs do go for pennies.
So why so cheap? The car is a brown (could explain it!) 81 rubber bumper model in apparently reasonable condition.

Nail. Head.How cheap is it?
If it was BRG, in mint condition and a chrome bumper mk1 or mk2 it would be worth something. A brown 81 rubber bumper? Not worth much at all I would expect
Heres links to 2 examples that seem rather cheap
Brown 81 rubber bumper
Badly listed 74 BRG chrome bumper
Brown 81 rubber bumper
Badly listed 74 BRG chrome bumper
So many variables:
Condition - concourse, immaculate, modified, no rust, bits of rust, hidden rust, restoration project.
Engine - mileage since last rebuild, any tuning (desirable unless concourse)
Colour - tartan red or BRG are the most valued, harvest gold (spew colour!) and brown the worst.
History - exactly how much work has been done and when.
Age - chrome bumper (pre-1975 cars) are more desirable than rubber bumper ones, 1965 onwards have stronger 5 bearing cranks, pre-1972 is tax free, 1971/72 cars had awful grills which most owners replaced with an all chrome or chrome surround and flush fitting grill from the 73/74 model. Later rubber bumper cars are more valuable than 76/77 cars (uprated anti-roll bars).
Key thing is to get one that's rust free. (for now! they all rust!) some people bizarrely actually like the rubber bumpers. Decent Bs can be found for 3500 upwards.
Enjoy!
