i want to buy a mg zr 1.8, but have noticed some are advertised as 1.8 120+ and some say 1.8 vvc 160. what is the differnce? and as iam changing from a pug 106 iam confused to what the differnces are. and is there any good or bad things i need to know before i buy. many thanks in advance.

VVC refers to the variable valve timing engine, same basic block.

VVC stands for "Very Very Complicated" It has a mechanism in the head which can alter the valve timings and increase the power output.As I understand it only comes into operation at higher revs......

thanks for that but does 120 and 160 stand for hp if so where does the other 40 bhp come from, is it the vvc?

In order, near enough - 120 and 160 is actually the PS output of the engines. (think is 118bhp and 156bhp if memory serves. The vvc does give the extra power, it works in a similar (but better) way to the Honda vtec mechanism.
