Hi all!
Just sold me old car (VX220) to fund a house deposit and looking for something around 5k to replace it. Seems like an early MG ZT190 would do the job very nicely! Spoken to a couple of people who say "don't buy one of those you'll never get bits for it". TBH I can't see it myself - must of the parts are from the automotive suppliers and so should be availible. Is this correct? Is it possible to get hold of most of the bits? I guess the KV6 could be an issue as it wasn't used in many other cars? Has there been an impact from the insurers - uping the premium due to scarcity of parts etc?

Seems like a fantastic car for the money

The ZTT is a great car. There is no problem with parts supply, because MG Rover sold that whole part of the business to Caterpillar before MGR went under. I have never had any issue with parts. That said, I've never needed any cos the thing is 100% reliable (I have a 2001 ZTT 190+)
I spoke to a an ex MGR dealer last month on this subject and he said that they were still doing the MGR servicing, and they were getting most parts for all MGR cars without problem - the only exceptions being some body panels on the ZR/R25.

That's great. I'd best get joining the mg forum and see what I can dig up about what to look for. As far as I know it's clutches, clutches and clutches!

After the Vx I can't wait to have aircon and a decent CD player...

Thanks for the swift reply BTW!

No problem. I've done 85k miles in mine, No clutch problems! Check that the bulkhead drains are clear, and that all the electircal toys work. It should not be shabby either. ZTs are very well built, so anything with dodgy paint or rattly interiors should be avoided as having been tampered with maybe. VIS valves can go (engine induction system on the V6) but its not too hard a fix. Early fuel pumps can unscrew but thats about it problem-wise.
Look for the + models - they have full climate control (dual zone) dipping RV mirror, auto wipers, and lots of other goodies. Xenon headlights are worth looking for too.

Good luck

Andy

Bulkhead drains? I take it these are on the firewall ('tween cabin and enigne bay). Just doing a search now, just doing a search now, but your name keeps popping up!

I would suggest you take a look at www.the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/ If you can't find the answer to any technical question on there, then it simply means the question doesn't exist! You will also find instructions on exactly how to check the bulkhead drains.
