Clutch is buggered[NOT ENGAGING] on the 190zt SMC say it is the slave cylinder, which it probably is, the only problem is they say it is fitted internally and the gearbox has to be removed to gain access to the slave cylinder. Are they yanking my chain I have never heard of this before.

Unless the slave cylinder is mounted internally yet with some external means of bleeding it, it sounds like you are being fed a line of BS.

Try another garage.

Nope they are probably telling you the truth, a large amount of modern cars, certainly Alfa's, Saab's and a lot more have the slave cylinder mounted where you would find the clutch release bearing, it's an integral release bearing/cylinder unit, there is however a long bleed nipple usually to facilitate bleeding as to bleed it with the gearbox off would be hard work.

well,£700 later the clutch is sorted, the slave cylinder is internal and the leaking fluid buggered the plate. Happy days
