TF Wins Top NZ Award
MG beats Maserati and HSV to secure Performance Car of the Year
The MG TF has been voted Performance Car of the Year by New Zealand's Driver Magazine.
Selected for its "truly sporting chassis and brisk performance", Driver Magazine said that it "really liked the MG TF and found it both fun and a serious performer". The MG TF beat the HSV/Monaro, Maserati Coupe/Spyder and Mitsubishi Diamante Ralliart.
Allan Dick from Driver Magazine commented: "The MG TF 160’s new suspension set-up, improved body torsional rigidity, more powerful engines and attractive new styling were key influences in the judging panel’s decision to vote the TF Driver Magazine’s Performance Car of the Year."
Discussion
Yes as ive said in many posts NZ is deprived of all the decent cars.
I havnt driven or even seen a TF yet but my dad has a 96 MGF and ive been more than impressed with it (other than for straight line speed anyway)...and whats the reason for that??? Ive never experienced all the cars that you ppl in the UK regard as common place.
Ive seen one elise in my whole life, for a 120hp one theyve been around the equivilent of £30,000. So not surprisingly they dont sell very well. Ive never seen a TVR and I saw my first Marcos 2 weeks ago which was a 1991 Mantula.
Im sure compared to a TVR et al its not that great but compared to the usual sports cars here its not that bad.
examples of what we get are MG TF, MR2, MX5, Holden Monaro (think 200hp 5 litre v8 in a 3000lb car) and the odd S2000 (dont think it was eligible this year as it didnt change at all, if not it would have been my pick)

Of course we have decent cars in NZ. We even have a factory backed Lamborghini showroom/workshop.
Check out the new BA Ford Falcon, the XR6 Turbo is the business - and as for the 4 cam 32 V8and of course Holdens Monaro. And as for 200 hp .. geeez the Monaro GTS is 300kw or 400 hp off the showroom floor !
But as for the MG, yes its a great car. Deserves the award .... but not by much . that HSV is hot on its tailpipe !
