Hi all,
My first post in the MG forum
I have a 81 reg MGB Roadster. Not used it for 4 yrs after almost continuos use - inc.lots of trips abroad. Has been nicely stored until I had to move it recently. After re-charging battery, initially turning over by hand & starter without plugs in, it then started up no probs. Gently warmed it up, oil pressure fine water temp as per norm. Went to select first & after initial clutch pedal pressure, pedal then goes straight to floor. Fluid still in master cylinder, none on floor. Can select any forward gear but do not have any drive. I have known Clutches to stick (after long layup) in drive position but this can't be the case. Your comments & suggestions most welcomed before I investigate.
Graham

Your clutch master or slave has stuck, to find out which try to bring the pedal back up manually, its usually the master and working up and down a couple of times usually frees it off so its ok.
If it doesn't come back up and stay up its the slave, so go underneath and gently persuade the actuating tod back in to the cylinder with a tap of a hammer (tap not wallop) again work a few times, sometimes the seals fail when you do this but if they do they do it immediately, you should be ok we have it happen a lot.

Thanks wildoliver for the promt response.
As soon as I have the MG back in the garage at my house, I will follow your suggestions. I had assumed (hoped) it was not the clutch itself at fault given the work necessary to rectify. Incidentally, I have a new clutch slave cylinder & braided hose in stock in case - purchased as a hunch just after the problem arose.
Thanks again . Will let you know.
Cheers,
Graham

Its possible but hugely unlikely that the pressure plate has given up the ghost.
If your unlucky enough for it to be the pressure plate let me know I've got a few on the shelf.
But it sounds like a stuck cylinder. If you've got a new pipe and cylinder I'd change them anyway as the slave has a hard life.
