ZR has excellent handling and great fun to drive. Great value too. I'd say build & interior quality comparable to similar French hatches.

Check for HGF on 4cyl K series cars (about £300 to fix with a new improved gasket from a Freelander) though I know plenty of people who have had no problems.

I think 115bhp TD a good option & 120 similar economy to 105 but does not feel much slower than 160 mid range.
