Hello folks I have just bought a VVC MGF that has developed a head gasket fault.
Whats the best place to get the gasket set, and what should I watch out for on dissmanteling and refitting?

Apparently you need a Landrover gasket.

But hey, you can google too.

I've heard that the new LandRover headgasket sets for K series are bulletproof...

NO headgasket is `bullet proof`, even less so on the K-Series due to the very small `Water Jacket`......

`Head gasket Failure` is realy the wrong description of the problem, the Gasket itself VERY rarely fails, its usualy caused by another problem subjecting the gasket to pressures it was not designed to take!.

There are countless reasons given for this `Failure`, ie head shuffle, thermal shock, heatsoak, over cooling, undercooling, etc, etc....... and thats just Some of the reasons!.

Likewise to the above there are also countless `cures` for HGF, ie Cylinder head locating Dowels(Head shuffle), Pressure remote Thermostats (Thermal shock), Electric water pumps (Heatsoak), etc, etc........ again thats just some of the so-called `Cures`..

What the Landrover gasket is meant to do is increase the clamping force on the gasket itself (Head to block), but it must be done with the new oil rail which is part of the repair kit, not fitting this means the LR gasket is only as good (or bad) as any other Gasket on the market.

IMHO its MUCH more important to keep the coolant system fully checked and free from leaks, blockages etc........ If you run the K-Series low on coolant and allow air to enter the system you risk a HGF, the best gasket in the world will not prevent this inc this L/R one!!...
