The wife wants a smaller car than the E class merc. So I will take it off her for my commute and sell the old beemer. Rather than a Golf etc I was thinking about one of these. The 190 seems the best choice. They seem cheap as chips.

I have one - a 51 plate. Its covered 68k miles now and has been utterly brilliant.
Its worth getting the plus pack model too. I can thoroughly recommend them.

(it followed a Volvo S60 and a 320 BMW as my car and I'd say its better than both of them)

I have had a ZT 190+ saloon saloon myself (pre-facelift) for the last 18 months - delighted with it, solid, reliable, great handling, nice to drive, distinctive and as you say great value.

I believe the CDTi 135 is very good too & can be chipped to 160bhp

Very highly recommended.

I too have an MGZT190+ saloon and will echo others comments - it is a very good car. Enjoyable driving experience, totally reliable, sounds great and is a refined/comfortable place to be.

Shameless plug - mine may be up for sale in a 4 weeks time - let me know if interested.

I've got a 53 ZTT cdti 135+ as my company car and very pleased with it - goes well (bmw derived engine) and looks good and gets some hard driving from me and the only unexpected bill was a new clutch at 55k - never burnt one out that quick before! The mpg is a little disappointing for a diesel regularly at 35mpg, but as I said I dont hang around and the company do cover my fuel!
I'd recommend it and shame its not an option any more...

Praise the lord. I have had my CDTI for nearly 3 years now and everyone else seems to get better MPG than me. Makes a change to find someone who gets rubbish economy like me. I have nearly done 60K and it had a new clutch very early (a weak point so worth checking). The 18" tyres are not cheap and I know some suffer from leaks in the cabin because drain holes fill up. Mine is getting a bit rattly but it does handle well. I have fitted a tuning box to mine for £120.00 that offers 7 settings depending on power and throttle reposnse. It has really made the car a lot better on the performance front and some people have seen 146bhp. MPG will suffer slightly and it smokes more.

More details can be found about the ZT-T and mods etc.

35MPG? Luxury! My wifes ZT-T 190+ rarely turns in more than 20MPG.

Friend of mine owns a ZT-T 230

Its a cracking car with plenty of toys, boot space and seats are very comfy and supportive. It also handles like its on rails... and if you dont believe me, get down to Donnington track days and watch it going round. Mental car!

Would seriously think about getting it into a dealer for the last software map (not sure when issued) - I average between 28-31 with mine - plenty of urban driving & not hanging around either!

I have a ZT260, the V8 version with a Ford Mustang engine and rear wheel drive. Think 'UK Holden HSV' for best description (I have an HSV too). Cracking car, best kept secret on the road thanks to the MG / Rover (non) Marketing Department! No wonder they went bump, if I had known about these I really would have got one before the Holden.

Been looking at these - quite fancy an estate version. They seem pretty damned great value!

When I discovered these cars existed, (September-ish 2005, well done MG Rover Marketing again!), it was the ZTT estate version I wanted. Prettiest estate ever IMHO but never interested until I found the 260 had the Mustang engine and rear wheel drive. Wanted a new car and despite trawling the interweb and calling every ex-MG Rover dealer I could find did not find an unregistered ZTT. Bought my ZT260 new, unregistered in December 05, the only non-SE I could find. Were a few ZT260 SEs, again not ZTTs, but catagorically did not want Traction Control and silly toys as would have taken them out for track days etc.

There are a few used ZTT V8s about, absolute bargain of the century provided the dealer / seller is not being silly about price...........I paid £15K brand new on the road, could have bought 'delivery mileage' for £13 to 14K, SE versions were £16 to £18K at that time for info. I dont think they will get any cheaper, maybe even appreciate when people realise just what they are, but be realistic and dont think you will be able to sell it on easily! If you get one you will not be disappointed, one of the best cars I have owned. Best of luck.

Where did you buy from because on Autotrader most of the low mileage 260s are going for £20k and up.

Bought from Horners, Rochdale, Lancashire. 0800 0287575. Was a cash purchase.

I hate(d) dealers. More than politicians. Buuuuuuuuuuut I must say that both the sales and sevice staff at this garage have proved absolutely brilliant and recommend them without hesitation.

Cheers
Paul

Thats why I bought mine Nothing else gives this performance for this money new. Sub 5 secs to 60, 155 mph limited top speed easily derestricted to 175+, handling as sharp as a Holden HSV with proper rear wheel drive. It is so fast I've had drivers of 'seriously quick cars' (they thought!) desperate to get close enough to see what it is if slowed by traffic V8 soundtrack to die for too

OE Cos....

You can turn traction control off on the SE model.

Gazzab....

14k? you'll be lucky. By the way, I would recommend spending 8-9k on a supercharger upgrade; at 260bhp its a little underpowered for my liking and many others too despite its power. By adding a supercharger you take it to just shy of the planned 380bhp.

Derestricting gives circa 300 BHP. Add an Accufab Throttle Body and re-route induction gives a further 20-ish BHP. Add a grands worth of 150 BHP Wizards of NOS nitrous kit and you will not need to spend anything like 8-9K. No problems to date (on this or another NOS kitted V8 plus many over the years). If you must have forced induction go for a Turbo, cheaper and more power potential, superchargers suck IMHO.
