How/where to value an MGB

A 1974 MGB roadster, garaged since a full & recorded restoration some 10 years ago may be coming my way in the next year or so for very sad reasons. The prices on Autotrader vary from bobbins to ambitious so don't give me a very good guide as to what it might be worth. I've not had a classic before, how should I go about getting it valued & is Autotrader typically the best place to sell or should I try my luck at auction?
