hmm. any suggestions on what I can do or what will work? to be honest its more the box at the moment that Id like to get done, think this would give me the extra oomph for now until funds look better!
Ive had a couple of prices back and they're about £800 for the box and kit plus up to £500 to fit!!!
Im sure there must be a cheaper way, Im not technical so its not something I can handle doing myself, yet!

The fitting bit isnt too hard, I did the sierra conversion in 1 day.
Im surprised at the price.
Dont forget you can buy a scrap yard 5 speed rather one from one of the places that will supply the 5 spd conversion.
The morris centre in Birmingham was the cheapest place that Arno found last year.
Oh and no the metro 5 speed will not work. The gearbox would need to be on a rear wheel drive car to have any chance of working. I seem to remeber a midget with a BMW box in it. But I never saw the car so I didnt see how that one was done.
As for the Metro engine, You would need to change the sump as it will not fit in the gap and I think you might have to change the crank because of the sump change.

Depends what you mean by easy. I meant that because a five-speed box was never available from the factory you can't buy cheap, standard bits to do the job. But there are plenty of conversion kits, so it certainly can be done.
Not sure a five-speed box will give you the 'extra oomph' you're after, though. It'll give you a taller top gear so motorway cruising will be quieter, the box itself will probably be quieter, and you'll get a synchro first gear, but none of that will make the car any quicker.

Need to use a sierra or toyota box, or a spitfire box with overdrive and marina bell housing and engine backplate and flywheel.
Your best bet would be to buy a marina 1.3 engine and box, as well as your metro turbo engine and the spitfire o/d box.
Take the marina block, and crank, backplate and sump, metro turbo rods, pistons and head (and turbo and manifolds obviously), and fit up to spitfire box and shortened prop.
I know because i've done it, and if you want a complete spitfire o/d box kit to fit a midget i just so happen to have one!

Many people have fitted the Rover K-series into Midjets!......... If you look over on the MG-BBS Midget K-series conversions even have their own board on the forum!!
