MGB supercharging
Discussion
Hello all,
I am thinking of buying an MGB GT with the intention of supercharging it. From doing a quick bit of googling and 'research' I've found that the kits are ~£4,000 - roughly my budget for the car itself. MOSS being the most promoted company. Is there anyone out there that knows of cheaper/second-hand kits, if so where could I find them and are they worth it?
My budget is fairly tight, being a student, so any help or information in light of this would be very appreciated.
Thanks.

Your post puts me in two minds.
If you're on a tight budget, playing with the engine to make it more powerful is probably a dangerous idea. Engines eat money when you start fiddling with them. Plus you then have to look at suspension, brakes etc. Oh, and the unexpected rust of course.
I NA tuned mine (new cam, big valve head, exhaust, bigger carbs) which made a decent difference, but even that was a few thousand all told. So practically, I'd say, don't even consider it. Stick with it how it is, or buy an MX5 if you want to go faster.
But if someone had told me that in my youth, I'd have ignored it and bodged something together on a shoestring and had a lovely time doing it.
Probably depends how much you value the car!

You do make a very arguable point. I got stuck on the idea of how cool saying; "I've got an old classic that I've supercharged myself" started to sound in my head. So much so it got to the point where taking the process beyond obtaining the car and the supercharger wasn't in sight. If you're on a tight budget, playing with the engine to make it more powerful is probably a dangerous idea. Still looking around, at the moment. Insurance on a lot of vehicles is still rather high and somewhat 'unpredictable'. Currently, I think my eyes are bigger than my wallet.
Thanks for getting back to the matter so fast.

An interesting read, I hadn't seen a BMW supercharger being used in any posts/blogs before.https://www.mgexp.com/forum/mgb-and-gt-forum.1/bmw...
Thank you very much
My 18 year old son has an MGB GT.
We spent a year fettling it, sorting the rust holes, electrics, new front brakes, new shocks and spent a lot of time sorting the engine (carbs, fuel lines, spark, exhaust, etc). £5k for the car, maybe £2k on bits and all labour done ourselves. It is now mint-ish (like a 50 year old car can be).
Honestly it doesn't need to go any faster, 55mph on a corner in that is like 95 mph in my V12S Vantage.
They respond very well in a corner to hard throttle just past the apex, really tuck in nicely! No danger of power oversteer in that unless it is wet (unlike the Aston).
