E10 fuel....

Can someone explain what I should do when e10 fuel replaces e5?

I have a 1972 MG roadster and I am currently under the impression that it will attack fuel lines, fuel pumps and carb internals. Am worrying unduly?

You are correct according to this. Not good.

"E10 is of concern to historic vehicle owners because it may cause some flexible fuel hoses, seals, gaskets, plastics and certain metals critical to the fuel system to corrode or degrade. This may cause damage to fuel pumps, carburettors, seals on injectors, pressure regulators and fuel tanks that are not resistant to ethanol. The bioethanol may also dislodge particles on older fuel systems causing blockages."

I know!

Without wanting to sound rude, I was asking what people are doing about it (replacing hoses, pumps, gaskets etc], not wether I was correct or not!

I know they’ve had E10 in the states for a while now so wondered what they do to their classic to get around it?

When the E10 finally floods the market change your flexible rubber fuel lines to SAE J30 R9 grade; job done.

For seals, buys small sheets of R9 nitrile rubber and make new seals at home.

Thanks for that, so, just changing the fuel hose is all I need to do? Will e10 have any effect on my performance? I’ve heard my economy will suffer?

Change fuel hoses and fuel gaskets/seals. I see little effect on performance as e10 has near identical calorific value, same with economy. One could see a small change especially where most engines were designed around old leaded fuel with octane/Ron ~100/105. I have heard of some larger capacity engines 'appearing' to have slightly lesser performance but nothing that a simple octane booster can't provide. In fact, if your B engine doesn't have hardened valve seats you should be adding a lead additive/combined octane booster + reset your ignition timing. Though there'll be very few original engines running on std 95octane/E5/E10 still producing a genuine 94 Abingdon Horses.

Higher ethanol content also affects the aluminium and brass inside the su carbs and will require the ali to be anodized and the brass parts to be replaced with stainless steel or electro plated steel this includes the jets, the floats will also need changing to a newer plastic thats ethanol resistant (most refurb/replacement ones are these days) that should sort the issue along with modern fuel lines and fuel filters and the fuel pump will need to be a more modern walbro or bosch item then a retune and some octane booster and you should be set fingers crossed
