1965 MG Midget Engine fault
Discussion
Hi All
I have had a problem with my 1098 Midget since November. It is progressively driving me mad as i have now exhausted most avenues.
The fault: the car starts ok and seems to run ok until it gets up to temperature and it then cuts out and won’t restart. I have: replaced the fuel pump and checked the fuel lines, replaced the carb valves and gaskets and centred the jets. I have replaced the distributor cap, leads and spark plugs and replaced the coil checking its resistance. It runs ok until it cuts out....
I hadn’t been using a fuel additive but corrected this to make sure that it wasn’t an octane level issue. I have a very patience wife but she sees the receipts! I need to fix.
Does anyone have any words of wisdom/new ideas?
Many thanks
Chris

Ignoring the upto temperature bit and thinking in terms of things that cause it to cut out after a while and not restart.
Fuel tank breather blocked? Could be temp related as the choke would mask it a bit. Easy to rule out, it'll run fine with the cap off.
Or massive cooling issue causing it to partially seize, but focus on the easy and less damaging ideas first!

Thanks, useful tips. I’ll give them a go. I have CSI electronic ignition so probably not the condenser but i am worried that it might be in the distributor. I understand that these units are pretty reliable.
Looking at it last night, it looks as if the rear carb fast idle cam is out of position for some reason. I will correct as well.
