Hi all, newbie here.

Will be a very occasional poster I think. My son in law recently inherited a 1976 B roadster from his dad. I used to run a B and later a V8, back in the days before internet forums, so his new toy has ended up on my driveway to get it set up for him. Not sure that he'll keep it, but anyway.....

Spent some time sorting out the basics including the HIF4 carbs which were in a bit of a state, so much so that I'm a bit surprised he managed to drive it here at all!

He mentioned that the electric cooling fan didn't appear to work. Having got the carbs etc back on today, I got the engine pretty hot and the fan didn't run. Jiggling about with the connector on the thermostat unit near the right-hand top of the rad, evidently the fan does indeed work but the connector is a right mess. More alarmingly, the thermostat started to emerge from the rad! I quickly stopped fiddling as I didn't want to be sprayed with near-boiling water.

Question is - how is the thermostat fixed into the rad? Is is really just pushed in through a rubber seal? Cos that's what it looks like.

Looks like I can get a new thermostat off Ebay but I could do with a new connector too, I think. Perhaps both are available from someone like Rimmers?
Any advice/experience on replacing this will be gratefully received!

Thanks.

OK, seems I found the answer, it's simply pushed in. Plus some folk use a cable tie to ensure it doesn't pop out. Hey ho.

They are push fit, but a lot of people add either a clip (I think there are aftermarket ones) or a cable-tie (through the top of the rad) to make sure they don't pop out. I found the new seals are not as good a fit as the originals so the tie adds some confidence.

That's the only time my 78 GT has let me down, the fan switch walked out of the housing, preventing the fan working. The Owners club offer an oversize grommet which helps, but I've now also have an L bracket held in place by a jubilee clip to the top hose.
