Hi, I am doing a K series conversion to a MG Midget. I am having a lot of trouble finding a standard bellhousing to go from
K series engine to Ford Type 9 gearbox. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

Have you approached an engineering firm about getting an adapter plate made?

Trouble is finding a bellhousing suitable to use with an adapter plate. K series engine was not made in a RWD drive car, so the bellhousing would have been made specially.

K Series was used in many Caterhams with RWD.

Titan have stopped making them and they won't make a one off. They will only make a batch of ten. Caterham used to fit the k series to
the Caterham but they don't stock the bellhousing any more. I have tried a few Caterham garages, but no joy,

Is there any other gearbox type you could use?

I know the Rover M and T Series would mate to a Rover LT-77/R380 and where also used with the PG1 box. The PG1 box was also used on the K-Series. But no idea if it's possible to get the R380 to mate to the K-Series.

I know of a couple of Land Rover projects that have also used the PG1 gearbox with a longitudinal engine setup. I think they locked what would have been the left and right outputs from the gearbox with a single shaft, this would in effect give you a rear output to the gearbox to then mate to a prop for RWD.

I think the problem is the Rover M & T engine/bellhousing bolt pattern is different from the K series. also I think a cast adaptor plate is used on the M & T

Have you checked with the Facebook group K Series/Ztec Midget and MGB?
Someone on there may be able to help.
I got mine on ebay (although some time ago!

I have managed to get a bellhousing from Millwood Engineering (Caterham Specialists). These things seem to be rarer than hens teeth.
Thanks to everybody for their help, Frank
