MG ZR 160 Typhoon
Discussion
How much do you reckon?? I've posted an ad on pistonheads and I have no real idea how much one of these would go for now. I've put a price on it of £11k (bearing in mind it was £18k less than a year and a half ago) because that's what I need to clear the loan. I can't find any like it for sale at the moment to compare. Any suggestions appreciated.
Age, mileage, condition? Difficult to gauge what the value is without knowing some facts about the car!
FWIW, the fancy (2 grand??) paint job will be worth nothing on resale.
TBH, 11k souns rather steep for any ZR 160 right now regardless of original cost (you didn't seriously pay 18k for one did you?)

Thanks for responding. The details are in the classifieds. It wasn't far short of £18k but that did include a roof mounted DVD screen!! Bottom line is if I don't clear the loan then I can't sell the car. I just have no real guide for price the way things are at the moment. I just think that there are very few ZR160's with the chromactive paint about - which I think is more to do with the fact the dealers never advertised the fact you could have the paint. It was only by chance that I picked up the brochure. I suppose at the end of the day it's only worth what someone's prepared to pay and at the moment I don't think many people are in the market for MG's.
I doubt you'll get 11k for it - similar cars (without dvd or typhoon paint) are going for under 7k. Given that you won't get much in second hand value for those I would think 8-9k at absolute max, and with such an individual car you're kind of dependant on someone wanting that specific spec.
Sorry it's bad news, but it does look like a very nice car!

Unfortunately, you will get nowhere near that 11K asking price for a year and a half old ZR, no matter what paint for ICE it has.
In 2002, I bought my wife a brand new ZR160 for LESS than 11K (this was a discount scheme, which was good, but killed residuals, as I found out when I part exed my TF160 in the same year)
We part exed the ZR 2 years later and got 8K, with only 10K on the clock. This was way before the collapse of MG Rover, so in the same situation, I would expect no more than 6.5-7K tops, Because of the paint job on yours, it may command maybe an extra £200 on top of that, and maybe £100 max for the novelty of the DVD, and in car DVD players are now dirt cheap to buy and install.
Realistically, it needs to be advertised for £7.5-8K
