MGB S U carbs AUD 492
Discussion
Never heard of a SU carb by that name, sure that isn't just a casting stamp?
Read up on SU's there are various tests for serviceability; worn throttle spindles and the piston and dash pot for two.
If the carb is too big for a 1600 B Series then rejetting it and fitting a matching needle ain't going to make it right. So due some due diligence/research!

An AUD492 is the SU HS4 pair found on MGB's post 1972 http://sucarb.co.uk/carbspec/carburettor/spares/id... Only thing to be careful of is over fuelling :. change jets and needles accordingly and then set up as normal. It would be worth having a chat with the good guys at Burlen fuels beforehand. Here's link to std MGA 1600 carbs for comparison http://sucarb.co.uk/carbspec/carburettor/essential... which I'm sure you know is the AUC943 H4.
As a big fan of SU's and tuning them for many a decade I see no reason why not to use the HS4's with correct fuelling...though you may need to modify carb linkage and throttle+choke cable.
