Hello everyone. My ladies MGF has decided to blow a head gasket...which im seriously annoyed about particularly as the car has been well looked after and is only 3 years old with 20ks on the clock.

Can anyone give some advice on a reputable, reasonably priced repair centre in the Kent area...i feel a big hole in my pocket all of a sudden..

Thanks.

Over here a well done job will cost you 1000,- to 1500,- Euros. (Less if only the head gasket is replaced, but I wouldn't recoment this.)

The HGF is a well known problem of the K-Series Engine. (Same as in the Elise.)

Leaking of coolant and sloppy made service are the most commen faults. (If the coolant liquide is repleaced but the system wasent bled correctly, airbubbles will kill the head gasket ... so if the HGF happend shortly after a service, might be worth to have a word or two with the garage who did the job.)

A nother problem is the mix of meterials, wrong treadment of the engine will kill the head gasket slowly. i.e. reving it up as a cold, or turning it off very hot! (Later is as dangeres as the first, but widely unkown.) Oil Temperature should be over 90° befor reving over 3000rpm and under 120° befor turning it off.

If you take care of this, and regulary check the coolant level, the engine will be reliable.

Note: if the Car was serviced correctly, Rover usually take over the costs for the material (50%) ... write them a letter and ask for goodwill.

Make sure that whoever does the work for you refills the cooling system properly ie uses the bleed screws,or you may end up with an airlock and another HGF
