MG B Restomod project
Discussion
Should also say that it is difficult to put a V8 in chrome bumper GTs but I have fitted a Moss supercharger and it makes a nice difference to drivability.
The same supercharger on a bored out engine with a well sorted head and perhaps a smaller pulley could be awesome!
Then think of fitting a mazda box...
Wait, you really need to declare your budget and aims!!

Haha wow you've given me quite a lot of stuff to answer there! I've got a few other projects finishing up currently and this is still in its very early stages. I've got so many different versions of MG B projects that I want to do but got to get this one done first. What I want for this project is for the car to have slightly more refined styling, an air of elegance and perhaps a little menace when you hear it. It won't look that different at first glance or to the untrained eye though it will definitely have to be widened. Its going to be a fast road car but an elegant one (hopefully!). Set on the idea of a V8 for this one (figuring out how it will fit will be a lot of fun I'm sure!).
The interior will be modified more than the exterior seeing as I'm tall and I want it to be modernised and ultra special, something you wouldn't mind a journey in. Hopefully I'll be getting it more narrowed down in the next few weeks and want to clear off those other projects before this one gets started.
From what I know, putting a V8 in a chrome bumper GT is a lot of work, and that a supercharger results in a fairly equivalent power to weight but is not cheap (4K ish).
If you are set on a V8 you could look at a more recent GT and change it to chrome.
Moss and the MGOC sell good modern supportive seats and co-ordinated trim in say beige leather, electric window kits, and there are a couple of power steering kits out there if you have trouble lifting a pound of sugar. Some folk also go for walnut dash coverings and door capings.
I have a stock looking roadster but with a map pocket covering a sub woofer, a recessed sony head hidden by the old MG blanking plate, a supercharger, and out of sight chargers, hands free etc.. It works for me!
I also fitted a brake servo but regret doing so, so I would advise getting a basic favoured package on the road and then look at fitting servos etc.
If I started again, I would not use a heritage shell and would go good stock components, and then upgrade.
Nice problem to have!
ps I fitted power steering to another car I built and it is superb, but that has a heavy V8.

Yeah the plan is to keep testing it as its built so that its right 'first' time. Very set on this one being the one that receives the V8, happy to modify the car and shoehorn it in. The engine I've got planned (that I don't know yet fits) would have to be bought with an entire car that ill get from salvage when I see it and I will be able to break the rest of the car to reduce costs. Its not going to be a cheap or rushed project, I'll have other projects on the go too so we'll see how it progresses. PS Everyone knows V8s are sent from heaven and there ain't no substitute for cubes!!
If I did't have two other cars with 14 litres of V8 between them then I too would go the MG V8 route.
Once many years ago I was hustling along in a roadster when a V8 Gt shot past me, it was a Waynes World "i am not worthy" moment!

thanks for the link, thats very helpful! What are your other cars then? mgtony said:
I'm not pretending that its going to be anything groundbreaking, a V8 MG B isn't a new thing. What I meant was I'm going to put my own mark on it and make sure the car is correct in the way I intend to change it. mgtony said:
That was only posted as it reminded me of that car. I presume slightly flared arches are a better solution to gain a bit of width than to cut the car in half.
Ah ok sorry, and thank you for posting it. I would agree that flared arches are the way to go though looking for a more refined way than just bubble arching it which seems like a more popular method. Gassing Station | MG | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
