1974 rubber bumper MGB roadster
Discussion
I am looking for some advice! I have just seen a roadster in a garage in Germany which fits the exact description of the car i first drove over 30 years ago..Being a bit nostaalgic here..its a rubber bumper version ,colour exactly what imTest driving it next week. The garage will give it a looking for. Paint work looks a bit tatty but generally no deep seated rust. The garage will give it a TÜV(MOT) next week so im assuming the car is roadworthy:The price is aboutfour thousand pounds.
The question is are there any serious things ive got to look out for..It seems like a fair price...but there aagain i dont have any experience in buying old cars!

Crikey, where to start. Really you want to be looking at the body as this is much harder and more costly to repair. So look for rust in the sills, dog legs, bottom corners of doors, front wings, beads along the top of the rear wings and the front scuttle. Lift he carpets in the footwells and check for rust. It should have rubber sill covers too, so check for rust pushing up underneath.
Check for previous accident damage, around the front rails. If you have a good body, you can make a good car, but if it is the other way around, it will be much more of a heart ache.

As per above. Everything is available and most jobs readily do-able with a B', which leaves the one area to check...thoroughly; rust. Inspect every last cm over and under, especially inner/outer wings, rear upper sections of front wings, inner/outer sills, front & rear sill sections, floorpans, battery box/es, boot, bonnet and boot lids, front scuttle, rear wings sections to sides of fuel tank, really check the fuel tank...plus fuel lines, brake lines, exhaust system, SU's and definitely the wiring. Don't worry about the interior too much as it's easily replaceable. The £4K value holds a real mish-mash in the market. It's semi-low end but one can find some great cars for the price. Note, just because it has an MOT/TUV doesn't mean it's a good one...may be you could take along someone who knows classic B's to help with the viewing? Good luck...
