MGF Bloody annoying warm-up issue
Discussion
Hi,
Have an issue with the MGF (2000 reg). It starts 100% OK. It idles OK for about three minutes then starts to seriously try and cut out (no warning lights on the dash illuminated or flickering). It almost cuts out, shakes and splutters but then after a while seems to right itself.
When the shuddering starts, if you turn the car off and on again it goes immediately.
I have changed the various obvious things like the idle air valve solenoid, temp sensors but the issue still persists. As I said the car starts OK and idles OK but then does this stalling thing which has become extremely annoying. It only does this when its starting from cold by the way.
Any ideas?? as my old man (whos car it is) is running out of ideas and patience....

Mine did something similar. Not the same circumstances but it would sometimes Rev it's self to a stop if unchecked.
Lots of stuff checked and changed like you describe.
In the end a mechanic I got chatting to after buying a tyre had a quick look and spotted that the air intake system hadn't been put back together properly and it was sucking air from where it shouldn't. Such a simple fix he wouldnt charge me for it, I insisted he got a pint or two.
