Considering a 1973 Roadster
Discussion
I have a former retired colleague who is considering selling his 1973 MG Roadster.
The car is immaculate inside, outside and underneath and has 67k on the clock; the interior was re upholstered a few years ago, it has a new hood and the paintwork is unblemished (in red), it has chrome bumpers and wire spoke wheels. The car has three wipers - does this mean it was originally an overseas car?
I am not particularly familiar with the MG brand in terms of what to look out for and what different variants of Roadsters are out there but am interested in this car.
What would be a potential value and are there any common frailties I should be aware of?
Thanks

For values, take a look here. Could be anything from £6k upwards depending upon true condition. The car is immaculate inside, outside and underneath and has 67k on the clock; the interior was re upholstered a few years ago, it has a new hood and the paintwork is unblemished (in red), it has chrome bumpers and wire spoke wheels. As with most classics, especially B's, they may look good on the surface but you do want to take a very close look. Check inner/outer sills, windscreen scuttle, inner upper wing area and if possible remove the splash guards, floorpan, and have a very good look at all four inner wheel arches...plus suspension mounting points, battery box areas +++ Mechanics are tough as old nails, check gearbox and diff for whine/play, make sure the OD works smoothly without using the clutch. Electrics and engine are a doddle with a B', though at this mileage listen carefully for worn tappets et al. Re' 3x windscreen wipers...this sounds like a converted US car which will drop the price, irrespective of condition. Good luck with purchase!
