Hey Guys! Happy X-mas!!
If any of you happen to come across a second hand hardtop for an MGTF (silver) on your travels, would be most appreciative if you could let me know!!!
The old lady had an 04' for X-mas from the ol' man and unfortunately some b*****d came along, drilled through the lock and scarpered with the hardtop!! It was raining that night and the aforementioned b******ds did at least clip the soft top back on for her!!! (Nice to know some crims do have some empathy with their victims!!!!) Subsequently mothers car is now sat in a Rover garage being stripped and dried out!!
Apparently it's the third one to go locally this week!! So any of you fellow TF'ers out there with Tin lids beware!!
Just for the record it was silver in colour with a grey roof lining. I know it's a long shot but you never know!!

Have a great New Year peeps!!

Sorry to hear of your bad luck, lets hope they catch the b.....d.
Iv'e just managed to get a top for mine albeit Black, I spotted this in the Autotrader.
You could try www.Findit.com (cars)or e bay had quite a few although they seemed there to be advertised in odd places - Car Parts by Brand/ accessories etc.
Chap in North London is advertising one on Findit, not sure of colour and wants £595 which seems to be the going price, if desperate, a respray to Silver I'm told would cost £150.
Sometimes a Seller will take off his Hardtop and do a seperate deal, keep a lookout for Silver cars for sale.
I assume you have claimed on Insurance ?
Good hunting.
Happy and Trouble free New Year.

Many thanks for the reply John. Hope you had a good New Year!
In answer to your question, yes we have claimed on the insurance. After all said and done that's what insurance is for, however £250 excess and a guaranteed hike in premium does leave you to wonder whether it is in fact worth claiming at all sometimes!
Thanks for the information and I will take a good look at the website you suggested.

Many thanks...

R.

I know of several cases where this has happened and the HT has been replaced by the owners insurance company, only for the same b******s to come back a few weeks later at nick the replacement, so watch out. May be worth considering getting the rear screen etched, it won't stop it getting nicked unfortunately but hopefully it would ring some alarm bells to potential buyers when it is sold on. Also be wary of some of the used HT's for sale, if they seem cheap there is probably a good reason for it (i.e. its nicked).

Steve,

Funnily enough when we picked up the motor yesterday (now dry!!!) from the garage they told us the very same thing!!! I think the problem with the MGTF HT is that they are just way to easy to pinch. I have a BMW with HT which although very similarly fitted is secured in a far more safer way which takes far longer to remove. Maybe this is something that Rover could take into consideration for the future. After all these things aren't cheap!
Your idea of getting the rear window etched is a very good one! Hookin the darn thing up to the mains sounds even better tho!!!!

www.ebay.co.uk

I looked on the site for a ZR rear spoiler some time ago and found loads that had been pulled off cars (and were suffering from some sort of damage). Now don't get me wrong, some of them would be by clumsy people, and others damaged in accidents, but I'd guess a few were nicked.

Just a thought.
