Hi
I have 205 50 16 tyres fitted on my car yet when I measure the diameter of the alloys, it' reads 17 inches.
Am I missing something completely obvious?
Also , having never had to use my spare, I found a Bridgestone. 175 55 14 . Surely it's not possible to use this as a spare?
Thanks

the fashion is to unnecessarily oversize wheels and tyres and it depends on the model as to how muchif you use the link there's a tyre size calculator which will compare the tyres you have on the car and the spare and show you the difference
it might be you have the wrong size spare tyre or it could be that a previous owner wanted to oversize the tyres and wheels so put bigger ones on, if you also read the other three pages on the link you'll see a lot on wheels and tyres - http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible_pg4.html
ETA: also note the info about tyre age in this link in case that spare is old and hard through lack of use so not ideal to use on any car, see tyre markings and DOT coding - http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible.html
