Late MGB GT Mk2

Saw an MGB GT going through Marlow last night. It had the Mk2 grille but the reg was an L suffix, implying a 73 or even 74. When was the Mk2 replaced by the Mk3? Or does the grille not necessarily indicate the mark?

It didn't look like a cherished plate but of course you never know.

The "recessed" grille with chrome surround was on 1970 to 1972 model years, chrome and plastic "honeycombe" grille from 1973 to 1974.

Your reg years are out by one. M was '73 to '74. I should know as my B is an M plate.

Ha! So it would have been a 72. That explains it.
