MG ZT CDTi Buying Advice
Discussion
Hi all
Im currently debating on a couple of cars im looking to buy in the next month or so.
Number one is the Renault Clio DCi (WHY...i hear you say that you say this in the MG Section) Well there is reason.
I'm a big car guy, always liked big cars having owned mainly Vectra sized lumps since starting to drive. Ive eyed up an MG ZT CDTi, 2004 model, 100k miles, pre facelift, had its clutch done etc and want to know more.
Compared with the clio I realise that the Clio will do 70 odd mpg with a £30 a year tax bracket, the MG a lot less, but by how much?
Considering im running a £90 a week SEAT Toledo V5 at 26mpg, anything more would be nice, but im looking for the biggest barge that does the best MPG.
I would like to know average MPG figures for the MG. I do 15 miles each way to work, A & B roads only, have a heavy foot if im late or need the loo.
Remapping them, worth it? More MPG?
Im simply doing this because although I really want the clio for the money saving running costs, the MG is a much nicer looking car at the same or LESS than the Clio and has more toys (and is bigger which in my books is a bonus)
Only downside I can see with it is that most of my mates will probably stay well clear for a lift since its really a rover 75 (and I can try and argue the BMW Ownership etc)
Also if anyone has any recommendations on a nice specced barge, good MPG (no LPG please) at around £1500.
Thanks
Jam

I had a ZTT CDTI from new in 2003 and only got 36mpg and that was mainly on motorways and fast A roads doing 35K a year.
They are heavy cars and TBH the 135BHP is a very smooth engine but underpowered.
I had a S60 2.4 D5 which gave 42mpg no matter how hard I drove it.
Ive also had a Toledo V5. One of the best cars I have ever owned.

Brake pipes will need replacing at that age if haven't been done already. Also check the boot as they leak rain water from numerous places!
Dont they just - looked at two MG ZT's last week, at the same dealer, & both of them had more water sloshing about in them than the Somerset Levels!!!Put me off tbh as they stank & both boots were full of mould. Dealer said that a couple of hours under an industrial heater in the workshop!!!!! would get them back to as good as new.
I wasnt convinced so i walked away even though the turbo car was priced up at just £1195.00......
