Well that was a shocker!

I bought my wife a ZR160 as a winter run around and it has a nasty blow from the centre section.

Whilst we had it on the ramp I happened to look at the backbox and noticed that right hand side tailpipe has a vacuum operated valve on it!!

I know this may not be a revelation to some people buy I thought it was awesome that a 10 year old MG has such a cool bit of kit.

I just need to make it work rofl

Is that standard on 160's do you know?

I have a 160 and never noticed it when I had OE backbox, I now have a catback system on..

Hi mate.

Yes I think it was standard on the 160.

All TFs had them too and it was to pass the drive-by noise regulations. The TF ones default to being open and the vacuum pipe pulls it shut until about 3000rpm. If you disconnect the electrical connector on the vacuum controller they sound a lot better at all speeds wink

You can see the TFs that still have working valves as they only have condensation fumes from the nearside and the offside is all shiny!

Its only the earlier TF's that had them. MG stopped fitting them in 2004.
