Looks like the MGF will be used through winter again. Any recommendation for preferably cheap tyres for the winter. Not full winters preferably. Toyos possible aren't ideal for this and are getting a bit low anyway.

I ran a set of Falken Eurowinters on my ZR last year and was mighty impressed. From memory about £55 each delivered from Blackcircles in 185/55 x 15.

There are only a few winter tyres available in the correct sizes for 16" wheels, and almost no all season tyres (I have yet to find any).
If you don't have large front brakes fitted your best bet to change to 15" alloys with 185/55R15 tyres, which will open up far more options.

This one has the 15" wheels. Is 185/55 the correct size? Standard is 205/40.

The standard tyre sizes for the F & TF with 15" wheels are 185/55R15 front, 205/50R15 rear.
185/55R15 all round is also approved for winter tyre use.
Are you sure yours are 205/40 and not 205/50?

185/55 and 205/50 on 15's have virtually the same rolling radius so no problems there. Winters are highly recommended, I went out looking for trouble in the last lot of bad weather and managed not to get stuck and had plenty of laughs!

Did last winter on the MGF, rolling on Toyo Proxis. I only died once.
(Well span out 360 into a hedge, wasn't fun).
Hence thinking of something better for winter use. (Toyo's are about dead now).
