Hi,
I have a ZS 180 that runs & drives very well but doesnt seem to have any more power than my old 1.8 had! Apparently at around 3000 rpm there should be a burst of power but there isnt. It simply keeps on accelerating like a normal car. A lot of owners describe these as fast cars but mine doesnt seem to be!

Could it be that the VIS motors are not working? Theres no rattling from the inlet manifold but I have heard that a soldered joint can break somewhere on these. Is there anything else that could result in power loss?

Cheers

check all the air/vacuum hoses/pipes around the inlet manifold. they can be a nightmare but that's likely your problem.

Right, had a look at all the pipes & think I have found something. There is a pipe that comes from near the air intake, goes across the engine & joins a T Piece with 2 other pipes, one which goes to the front of the engine and one which goes to the rear, near the vis motors. Basically the T Piece is missing & all 3 pipes have just been taped together & the tape has unravelled itself somewhat!

Why that T Piece would be missing is beyond Me, its not as if they exactly wear out is it? I havent noticed it before as its just under the plastic engine cover, noticed some tape hanging out & investigated further.

Hopefully I have found the problem, going to discard the tape & fit a T Piece tonight.....
