Kev,
I doubt you'd got many replies until the moderator put a subject line in for you as you'd forgot to put in a title to click on to

low mileage and infrequent use isn't necessarily good for a car and can mean the car requires more servicing not less

regular use throughout the whole year is best, if you don't want to take it out when salt is on the road for example fair enough but there are many better (and roof down) driving days in winter than you sometimes get in summer so you'll be missing out if it's seizing up in the garage

with insurance limited or very limited mileage doesn't always save a lot of money and often if you ask you can fine extra mileage or even unlimited mileage is available at little or no extra cost

for what it's worth I'm with Peter James insurance (Peter James was co-founder of Footman James before it was sold off to AON)

go to the home page, at the very bottom, fill in the two boxes for 'Call Me and give me a quote' and let them ring you back (Available 9am-5pm Monday to Friday) and then it's cost you nothing to enquire

Do you mean a TF? - I thought they'd stopped making Fs by 03.

If it's only going to be a toy, and you'll be doing fewer than 5k miles a year, you could get classic car insurance. If you join the MG Car Club (about £40pa) Peter Best Insurance can put you on a classic MG policy - you don't earn an NCB so it's only worthwhile if this is to be an addition to your fleet, not a replacement, but a 5k mileage policy for my 01 F is less than £200pa fully comp.
