I know that conventional wisdom says the V8 is the better car in standard form.

But ... there seem to be an increasing number of modified C's around these days and I was wondering if they actually make a more interesting/desirable car with a few upgrades such as offered by MG Motorsport etc.

Anyone had much experience of both as a comparison ?

Hi

Being slightly bias towards the C , none the less the V8 is nice car - in its basic form its little better than a C maybe more torque only.
Both can be modified far beyond what is required of a road car as you may have seen.
The V8 has not been so popular on the market few original examples around out of the 2500 or built. Those built by Costello are rare and sort after, home converted again some nice ones and some crap.
The C most go for very moderate upgrades , MGMotorsport does a lot but are not cheap and nowdays all parts are available that were once there exclusive domain.
C's are rising in price a good one is around 12-15k newly rebuilt 25-30k drivers 4-7k projects 2-4
It really depends on your pocket and driving wants,a fast road C is far better machine than a V8 for satifaction. Again each to there own, I would get to drive a good one of each, a poor one will do no justice to either.
Parts, insurance are all easy to get.
If you goto www.holmesracing.co there's a video of my C running in a new engine on one page and a list of specs for the car.
Another site is mgexperience.net or britishV8 all with lots of info on both.
If your near snetterton on 24th june MG on track have a track day my C wil be there plus a number of V8's

Thanks for the info.

I'm more inclined to the "C" they're a car I've long admired and with all the upgrades/mods available they seem to be very practical too.

Anyone know this car/dealer ? It looks to have some decent mods on and I understand the previous owner spent a fortune on it.

Former glory do have some nice cars and this one has all the right bits, my son admired this and the primrose yellow. The power steering is handy if your 90 or have one arm , have a very close look at how it was done esp the column welding.
MG motorsport they will try to say is the best don't believe a word, the head was done by Peter Burgess as for whats in the engine ! but don't be put off drive it , it should have the uprated torsion bars and lever arms and larger front antiroll bar then the handling is sorted.
The servo is in the same place as a USA car only they have two maybe a imported car in the past, although the plate looks correct I have a c with a similar plate.
the price is attractive at 15k which I'm sure he will deal.
Oil pressure 50+ at 2000 idle 25psi hot min
Temp 180 normal , hotter then ask why.
check tyre pressures well 2 psi higher on front than back don't overinflate. This one thing can make or spoil the handling.

I've owned both V8 and CGT and still have my CGT. I'm not going to get into the V8 vs C thing except in my opinion, in standard form, one of them is markedly superior to the other. Go and try both for yourself that's my advice, don't go and chase one or the other on the advice of a forum.

I intend to try both myself but I do value the opinion of the forum particularly regarding modified C's.

In my experience it helps to be prepared before travelling all over the country trying to find a decent example of either.
