Can anyone state definitively what the nearest modern tyre size is to the original 165SR14 size on my B roadster with 14 inch minilites.? . i don't care too much about retaining original tread patterns etc but would like to get as near as poss to the original size. Anybody know???

Seems that 185/70/R 14 is about as near as I can get....

I use Vredestein Sprint Classics on mine (rostyles rather than minilites) in the original 165r14 but they're not very cheap...

I found my car a bit "fussy" on the motorway with 165Rs on it. They have a smaller rolling radius than the crossplys the car was designed for even though they were a factory oprion. The 70 sections mentioned above have been used for years on MGBs, but I run mine on standard (ie 82 section not low profile) 175 radials. They give close to the 22 MPH/1000RPM design gearing in o/d top. They give plenty of grip but can be unstuck with a lot of right boot. I also never complain about heavy steering at low speeds. This has been done to death on the MGB BBS on Britishcars.org for years.

I think either or both the MG Beehive and the MG owners club do Uniroyals in the original 165 x 14 fit.

I've been running with 185 / 70s x 14s for years. The steering is marginally heavier but the car sits better for the more spirited driving I enjoy with it.
