Hello,

I may soon become the owner of the above car. There's a few snags though--

Has been stood for 2-3 years

No docs or information on the state it's in, I.E was it stood because of HG failure, are there any under lying issues?

The intention is to use it as a run around, or possibly for some track use. I am hoping for this to be a project, as I appreciate that it will need some TLC to make sure it's fighting fit!

My question is, as this will be a 1st for me, what sort of things should I be checking for on a car that has been stood for this period of time?

The plan so far is to-

Uprate head gasket
Change fluids
Possible change of brakes all round

What else should I be looking to do?

Cheers, I look forward to your advice!

First things first I'd give it a good service. New spark plugs, oil/fuel/air filters and some good oil. The head gaskets aren't that bad it's the cooling system that causes them to fail, change the water pump just in case and the timing belt while you're at it.

If the head gasket hasn't gone don't bother 'uprating' it for the sake of it!

I wouldn't worry too much about the brakes either personally, some half decent pads tyres and fluid and you'll stop without problem.

ETA misread about the brakes , if it's stood for that long I'd probably check them out too!

Thanks for the response guys.

I aim to get it started, once I know it runs, I will proceed to give it a good service and definitely get the petrol drained! Hopefully there wont be too much of this.
I will keep the post updated with progress on

a) whether I get the car!
b) how successful I am in getting it running.
