About 5 years ago in a fit of youthful exuberance I purchased an MGB GT with a short MOT with a view to doing a bit of light restoration on it... Made a small start but Space time and money got in the way... It's almost certainly time to get rid now (in fact it's long overdue!)

The car is on J-plate (a MkII I think?) with the recessed grill, it has neither sunroof or overdrive, and whilst the body seems to be relatively rust free the paint on the roof is badly blistered... it has a fibreglass or plastic bonnet. The engine smoked badly when it was last used 5 years ago and to top it all the windscreen got smashed in by vandals a while back. It also has no front brakes or discs!

I always thought the bodyshell would make a good basis for a track car being perhaps a little more rigid, but I think its time to realise that me doing anything with it is just a fantasy really.

Oh and to top it off its in bronze yellow which is probably an acquired taste.

So if I were to sell it what should I be looking for... It is tax exempt!

It's probably worth what someone is willing to pay at the time.

Your best bet is to take lots of detailed photos, especially of anything that is good with the car, and hawk it around on some web forums or put it up on ebay.

The one thing it has in its favour is that it is tax exempt.

Thanks for the replies, the car is located in Norfolk, which I guess limits the market slightly. Unfortunately I'm usually in London which means any action requires a bit of forward planning. One option I had considered was breaking it and then maybe selling the rolling shell, but I think that might just be a bit too much hassle.

A couple of hundred quids? - if you can find a buyer!

Put it on ebay with no reserve - you might be pleasantly surprised.

Afraid Norfolks the deal breaker for me, would love the car but I'm never doing that drive again with a car trailer.

is that because of elderly drivers doing 40 mph on NSL roads then maintaining that speed through 30 and 20mph villages so that when they're back on to the NSL road they're well in front of you and you catch up with them to loose them in the next 20 or 30 mph village as they continue at 40 mph - that's how it was for me last tour or run I done there and thought same as you I'm not coming back, to tour/run at least

God so many reasons.

The above, the fen roads, the roads that you drive down for hours then realise you've covered around 20 miles, plus the constant risk of being eaten alive in a hills have eyes kind of way.

Lovely place, nightmare to get to.

got to say the born and bred Norfolk and Suffolk folk I've always found very friendly and laid back

the folk that move there at retirement and then moan about everything there whilst taking up all the 'free' facilities and pushing up the property prices so that the local can't afford to buy there are a different matter and they're the one normally doing 40 mph everywhere

You've not seen "The Reeds" yet then. (I like the area slow roads do have advantages)
