hi guys i normally lurk in TVR forums but a lovely old MGB caught my eye with a 2litre 138bhp engine conv from Oselli, what sort of improvement is it from standard B performance? Its been a long time since i owned one.

Hi Should be a 1950cc engine then not to stressed, the basic car was 90-95 !! the car will be quicker than normal but don't expect TVR performance.

I had a 1800 Zetec about the same hp and it was fun.

if you just test drive it after years of not driving a B you wont have a comparison

yes it should be a lot faster and quicker but it might not be better, some Bs when they're 'improved' just loose the balance and sweetness of the original car

as these cars tend to be more expensive I'd compare it against a test drive of a more standard B around the same price obviously the more standard engine will be slower and not as fast but there's a lot more to a car than just the engine

these types of cars tend not to get driven frequently so often a tatty but frequently driven example that's also been fully serviced, maintained and repaired will actually drive better and be more enjoyable (same for most cars and all classics)

as has been said a more modern 16v engine without carbs will be more powerful and use a lot less fuel but the engines feel entirely different, it depends if you want the higher revs and more power or less power and revs and enjoy the drive with the mid-range torque, as with all cars it's not about the numbers on paper but how it feels to you, a very fast car can feel uninteresting yet a slow car can feel faster than it is and be very enjoyable

The Zetec engine is lively but with a MGB exhaust the exhaust note was the same old be which brings a smile to anyones face. This B went well on track if a bit soft.
I loved the looks and now have three two MGC's and a 63B race car in build.
