Just thought i would share some details on our old and new track day cars.

Me and my good friend share the car halving the bills and trackday costs which really works well

The original plan some 8 years ago was to build a track toy which would really upset people with expensive machinary, a car people would dismiss, something classed as quite un cool and NOT a scene car such as Subraus etc

So we chose a Maestro

We ran this with a mixture of parts and engines and it weighed in at 800kg

1st Engine twin Carbed 8v Turbo with T3 Turbo Produced 220bhp/220ft lb (we used this for 1st year
2nd Same engine, T34,48 turbo, more boost and 280bhp 270ft lb

Then 3 years ago we took that engine out after it let go one day at combe and fitted

T16 Forged Engine with T34.63 Turbo and 350bhp/350ft lb

Engine Spec
Rover T16 Block
H Section forged rods
Wossner Forged Pistons
Ported, polished and gas flowed head with new piper cams
T34.63 Turbo with 360 bearing
Emarld K5 Management, upgraded fuel system incorporating Boot cell, Gripper Diff and steel caged bearing gearbox

Suspension
Leda fixed Platform

Safe to say we upset quite a lot of expensive machinary, scalping i believe every BMW, Subrau we ever met, most cosworths and quite a few evos (standard one or 340bhp ones, not 500-600 ones)

Unfortanatly last year we decided that after 8 years ownership, a shell that was starting to look scabby, having to bespoke everything, shortage of panels, wanting bigger brakes we decided to break the car and sell the shell on which then moved us to the new project

MGZR
We chose MGZR as in the race series they are very capable and post some great times around combe with 190bhp.

So work began, this time we decided that everything we do we would try and do a little better than before, such as concentrate on brakes, layout of the car, try and keep weight down as the MGZR is a heavier car than a maestro, ensure we have great suspension so we can utilise the power from the engine.

So 1st off, source a car, we wanted something well looked after, relativly cheap but a really good shell, one came up, needed exhaust, cat etc, but we easnt bothered as that was all going in the bin!!!
We wasnt crazy about the colour but there was not a mark of rust anywhere, as the previous owner polished it regularly and it was garaged every night.

Next was the cage, we wanted a decent cage, trawlled around the net and found a full on FIA weld in cage and the started saving the pennies.
6 Weeks later cage was purchased, and then another 5 weeekends fitting the bloody thing

Add to the list some second Hand Avo Remote reservoir dampened suspension that has been fully serviced by AVO from an old MGZR Race car

Scouring around the net we the found someone that had a fibreglass tailgate made with polycarb windo, this was purchased, and Arc angels have just started doing carbon bonnets (next on list)

We also picked up some second hand Brembo Megane Cup brakes, John machined some brackets and we fitted them with 326mm Discs from a RS Focus Mk1, (one we redrilled the PCD)

The polycarb for doors have been ordered and where we can remove weight/metl we have

The car will be fitted with the Maestro engine and a tweek on boost will see around 360bhp/360ft lb, and hopefully 800-825kg, with a power to weight of about 450bhp per tonne

So there we have it, far from finished but progress so far

Seems a real shame to butcher what was supposedly a great ZR but what best to do with it than create a giant killer! I remember those XPower bumpers with the massive built in fogs/ spots, one of those would make it look pretty evil especially in a matt dark grey colour. The best (looking) wheels there too.
