I had no idea they made a touring version of the ZT 260...

£6,500 for 6.2 seconds 0-60, V8, RWD as well rarity and 'Q-Car' appeal in spades

EVO certainly seems to like them;

http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/cargrouptests/4254...

I have no need for this car whatsoever, however the appeal of this in incomprehensible.

Oh and this video DOES NOT help my desire

http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=GB&hl=en-GB&am...

Is there any reason I shouldn't?

No reason whatsoever, the stats speak for themselves and I like that "Q" factor a lot, plus its uber practical... so much win!

Do it. They're expensive to buy, but will hold their value indefinitely. Utterly depreciation proof.

Some parts are cripplingly expensive if I remember rightly, mainly the '260'-bespoke suspension and brakes. If you can stomach the high parts prices, I say go for it... and sell it to me when you're fed up of the fuel bills!

I've been hankering after one for years. Try and find the Top Gear vid on Youtube of when Clarkson drove it, fairly amusing to watch and he also loved it.

I remember an Autocar feature where they took a ZT-260 up to the Black Mountains in the snow. Quite fancied one ever since.

Pretty thirsty, but I wouldn't say they were particularly expensive to buy considering what you get. I'm sure E39 M5 is better in every quantifiable way, but the ZT sounds like a lot of slidey fun and it's far more exclusive.

Really want one. Mrs has little trust of MG products since our k series ZT popped its HG surprise surprise... She will be won round with that noise though... When our current A6 2.7t goes bang, off to the classifieds I go!

She can trust it, because it has a Ford engine wink

Rear brake discs only afaik. Other bits are AP/Eibach etc.

I would love one of these. I'm not sure whether I'd find the Rover version (if they had a manual transmission) more appealing though. IIRC the Rover 75 V8 had quad down turned exhausts as standard?

Very few (of the surviving ones) still have the original exhausts. Some people even went to the extent of sleeving the (loud) after-market ones! whistle

The Rover version was automatic only. I've only driven one once, but it was an utterly different experience to the ZT-T 260 I've owned for the last 6 years.

The ZT-T delivers pretty consistent shove right through the revs. The 75, on the other hand, spends ages fishing around for a gear - on kickdown in particular - but gives you an almost turbolaggish kick in the arse when it does eventually find one! hehe

As for cost of parts, yes, the rear discs are bloody expensive, although the owners' club has worked out a way to source them much more reasonably. On pads, however, never go to a motor factor and request rear pads for a ZT V8! They will bend you over the counter and rape you. Ask instead for front pads for an Elise or VX220 amongst others (Scoobies and Lancer Evos as well, from memory), and you will get exactly the same pads for a fraction of the price.

The rear pads, btw, are an absolute delight to change. You need no more than 5 minutes per side plus getting the wheel on and off to do it. The fronts, on the other hand - a completely fking useless design snaffled out of the 3 Series parts bin at the time - are a bd.

One other part that will make you cry if you ever need to pay for it (mine was under warranty, thankfully) is the alternator. £300+ before VAT for a bog standard thing!!! yikes

Still, overall, mine has been very cheap over the time I've had it. Only one really painful bill (at a shade over £1k) and that was to replace the slave cylinder (or master, can't remember which), which involves dropping the engine to get to it, so I had the clutch done at the same time. Other than that, probably the biggest cost after fuel is tyres. Depreciation doesn't seem to be affecting them at all.

Sadly, mine will be up for sale pretty much as soon as Ford's sodding Belgians stop striking and deliver my new company S-Max. cry

Anyone in the market for a Mk1 tourer which is also the only Biomorphic Green V8 in existence, watch this space...

It's on 80k miles. Being the rarest variant, I'll probably be looking for around £7.5k, but I'm going to get it serviced first and get the mechanic to give it a full check-over at the same time to see if there's anything which might need to be taken into consideration on that.

I can't sell it at all just yet, though, given the bloody Belgians delaying the S-Max! hehe

I had a mk1 zt-t

They only made 25 of them so mega rare

In three 3 of owning the car the only thing I replaced other than lots of petrol was tyres

I keep looking at these bloody things...despite having a power-weight ratio not that much more than my ZS180 with a few tweaks, not fitting in my garage and meaning stupid expenditure on tax, insurance and fuel...I just "want" one.

Wonderful cars, I still really miss mine. They like a drink and consume lots of tyres but there are no other negatives as far as I was concerned. any excuse to post a photo:
