MGB GTs - they can shift !
Discussion
A pal has just bought a MGB GT so we headed down to Thruxton at the weekend with the families to see some of the MG club racing. Had a fantastic day and the racing was really exciting ( for us - my daughter was more interested in the ice cream van) . Thought you may fancy seeing a few snaps. He's now wanting to do a track day

Did you get a picture of the next car along after this lot, yellow Dtype replica No61. I had a major brown trouser moment after hitting the brakes coming up to the chicane and the pedal going straight to the floor.chalkey said:
im rebuilding an mgb gt at the moment its currently off for paint but the first track day i did was in an mgb gt hence me getting hooked and buying one, my gt is actually 10 years older than i am
If you're after another project GT let me know. The same pal is trying to clear one out of his garage. Shame if he ends up scrapping it.chormy said:
Those V8's have well over 400hp , last year they had big arches and huge tyre but the series decided they were not nice and banned them sad lot.
A normal road MG will not handle like these race prepped ones even tho they say they have standard setup lol!
400bhp from the 3.5 RV8 ? Wow ! I've got a 5.0L RV8 in my TVR and with fast road cams, electronic fuel and ignition etc, I'll be lucky to see 320bhp. They must have the nuts tuned off them !A normal road MG will not handle like these race prepped ones even tho they say they have standard setup lol!
Here is mine with latest upgrades being front splitter and rear wing which work really well.

Sure I've seen that, or one very like it, at Castle Combe although without all the aero. I only saw it for a second as it flashed past http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VREATjDytXw&fea...

We were at Thruxton with the MGF register. I enjoyed the 50s sports car race best when a beautifully turned out Lotus Elite saw off a big iron Aston Martin and Austin Healey. So in motorsport a good little un can beat a good big un.
MGCC members were allowed on track in the lunch break. This is the view of the field from our TF. I just looked through my pics, sorry no D types :-(

Rear Discs are easy to do on an MGB. Rover 800 rear discs have the same PCD but the central hole is slightly too small.
I made an 8mm ally spacer that went onto the hub first then fitted the discs. Made caliper brackets from 5mm steel plate with a couple of spacers. Then used Ford sierra rear calipers. Had no luck getting the handbrake to work well enough so made my own hydraulic handbrake setup (I have seperate front/rear braking systems with bias adjustment). Of course this made the wheel sit 8mm further out which suited my wheels.
Since then I have upgraded the rears to vented discs using Wilwood rotors and Cosworth 4x4 calipers.
Dont really have a build diary as the car has evolved over quite a few years.
Cheers
