good road holding.wear rate is not such an issue as this car only dose about 4000miles a year.

I run 185/70 x 14 Yokohama A drives on mine - massive extra confidence in the wet.

i had some issues with mine when got it back after 18 years, it was sitting on some godawful oversized rubber. After a struggle locally sourcing tyres i found a set of almost brand new Fulda M&S tyres 185/70 14, on Corsa wheels, on ebay. For £100 i was more than happy. took them all to my friendly local tyre shop for fitting, he advised me they are a bit noisy, until i told him what car they were going on! have to say they are tremendously sticky in the dry, but i havent driven my car in the wet yet!
Have a look on ebay for corsa wheels and tyres, many of the later ones come with 185/70s and Corsas are very used to upgrades so plenty about.
£120 fitted for 4 tyres is a lot less than i had set aside for the job.
please excuse my typos as i cannot get a capital i up at the moment!!

I've just put Vredestein Sprint Classics on mine, 165 14".

They're not cheap but they look good on the car.

I'm sorry i can't agree. the Vredesteins just look like modern tyres. The fact they have the word "Classic" written on the side is of course not classic. you can have a set of 5 of the original equipment Pirelli Cinturato's for £ 600 including new tubes and delivery makes anything else seem expensive.

blimey business must be slow for you to drag this thread back just to recommend tyres that you sell - wouldn't be so bad if you stated your interest

Pirelli are just way too expensive.

I can't see how a 50% extra premium over other reputable makes is justified.
I'm fitting Kumho tyres to my MGC.
I've used them on a 400 BHP twin turbo Nissan Z32 and more recently a VXR8 with 450+ BHP.
They're excellent in the wet and dry and have no obvious adverse issues.

Quoted price is £398 for supply and fit (including tubes as they're for wire wheels).
Tyre size is 185/65x15 I believe.

My only experience of Pirellis was unfavourable - 2,500 miles from a set of rears but they were given a hard time.
Replaced with the Kumhos and no noticeable differance ..... apart from 8,000 miles before replacement.

I don't think the tread pattern on the Vredesteins looks modern (but you are absolutely right on the word 'classic'). Back when I bought them I don't think the Pirellis were available so the alternatives were the Michelin or cheap tyres. From memory the Michelin were about twice the price of the Vredesteins so my B whilst driven moderately enthusiastically isn't the most powerful car I chose the Vredesteins.
I don't know how many miles I've put on them but a good few thousand and I'm very pleased with them. I would / will buy the same again.

Anyway I probably wouldn't have bought Pirelli even if they had been available because my daily driver had P6000s on and they were one of the most disappointing tyres I've ever used. Now replaced with Goodyear Eagle F1A2s which are great.
