I,m thinking of buying a v8 again(had one yrs ago)
but as most have done more then 60,000 miles it will need a cam whatever i buy, anyone know how big ajob this is and also are sdi heads worth fitting 4 an extra 20 bhp maybe slightly hotter cam for an extra 10 bhp.
Can the standard gearbox handle 175 bhp?

I dont think you will have to do a lot of work (on SU's) to see about 200bhp.
Like you say it is a common job on a rover to change the cam and folowers. Its not all that hard to do but just take up a lot of time.
The gear box will start to become the week link with the extra power and the overdrive will not like it too much ether.

How deep are your pockets?? Usually doesn't stop at a cam/head change. You'll need to refurbish the oil pump, double timing chain, electronic dizzy, SUs etc. etc.......
Try these to get some prices:www.rpiv8.com/carbs-2.htm
also Rimmers have stock items at reasonable prices:www.rimmerbros.co.uk/cgi-bin/rimmer.bat?v8engine/v8engineindx
