Bit of a silly question
Discussion
i bought my MG back in Jan 12 and the one thing i forget to ask the owner, who has now moved , has it been modified to run on un-leaded fuel,
I have been putting in un-leaded and it seems ,to go ok , but can i mix the fuels even though i am not sure
Mike

When I bought my B I was told it was converted to run on unleaded and so I ran it on standard unleaded, when I rebuilt the engine (bearings, not a problem not caused by the fuel!) I discovered it hadn't been but no harm had been done over the few thousand miles driven. I now run it on unleaded with additive (the valve seats were fine and I couldn't warrant the cost of replacing them for the sake of not using a bit of additive with each fill up)
Mike, if lost contact with previous owner you could try the company who rebuilt the head. If no luck, pop in some Miller VSPe for good measure. Will cause no harm if head already done + should help hoses and seals contra' the dreaded ethanol. If you want some fun pour in 500ml of Millers CVL Turbo with Super+ Unleaded which will give the Midget 101RON

don't worry about it
had all this 15 (20?) years ago
if it needs it it' could already need the head doing if it doesn't it could be many years before it does either way deal with it if/when the time arises
if it's only going to have occasional use (generally bad for the car anyway) it'll take longer than if you drive it hard for every second
by all means if it eases you add something but your money would be better spent on servicing and setting up the timing and fuel mixture to make the engine run well
but brakes, tyres, steering, suspension, lights, windows are all way more important that the engine or carbs
ETA: mixing the fuels(?) can you still get leaded petrol(?) you can use leaded or unleaded, 5% or 10% ethanol, 95 or 97/98/99 octane
set up for and with 95 octane then you've no worries when you go to places where that is all you can get

As above, I'm yet to hear of a real case of valve seat recession on these cars.
Yet thousands of owners have spent money on "unleaded" heads and snake oils to make the problem go away.
Worse case scenario your the unlucky one let the damage occur then fit the seats, even if it scrapped the head a good complete second hand head is less than £50 (hell a full second hand engines not much more).
