Hi All,

I have a nice 2004 MGZT 120. However, when it rains the rear passenger side footwell fills up with water!! The main drainholes at the front of the car that go from the top of the bulkhead to the wheelarches are clear & I have also tested the sunroof drain holes & they are clear!

I have heard that the rear light clusters can leak and on the passenger side in the boot it is a bit damp. If it is this can it leak through to the rear footwells?

Any ideas of where else it could be coming from? Its really annoying!!

Cheers

I had a similar problem with my FSH Rover 220T.

After several visits to different garages, I eventually found the the drain holes on the bottom edge of the sill were blocked with mud. On poking a lolly pop stick in, about two gallaons of water came gushing out!

Is the heater still working? Coolant in the expansion tank? You sure the heater matrix isn`t knackered?

You lifed the rear boot carpet and looked in the spare wheel well? I did this and found 3 inches of water in it! It was sloshing about as drove and going under the rear seats in to the rear footwells.

Two things to look for. First, and the easiest, make sure your windows are completely shut, they may look it but use the switch to make sure. I had this problem on my ZT-T. After being left on a very wet and windy day I found the edge of the rear seat and roof lining soaking wet (can't remember checking the footwell). Making sure that the window was fully shut sorted that and it hasn't happened again.
The second thing......my son's Golf Mk2 leaked when it rained, into the footwell. We found that the plastic film that seals the door (between the door and the door card) was a bit tatty and so replaced it with new plastic sheeting and sealant, making sure that the lower edge actually went inside the door itself. Therefore, any water getting into the door is directed to the bottom of the door and out through the drain holes. We tested the new setup before putting the card back on. A fiddly job especially on a ZT/75 but worth it.
