well done, use it regularly

I've done loads of posts of suggestions for new owners - which most find OTT or ignore - a quck search will find them

enjoy

Hi

Well done on the purchase!

I picked my first one up last Friday - and MGC GT - same colour as well!

Have fun with it!

Thanks! Starting to get excited about picking it up at the weekend. I'm sure I'll have a dozen things I'll want to fettle...

do a staged full and proper 36k miles service/check up ASAP after getting the car and drive it regularly and you'll iron out most of the problems sooner than later

Agree with the above. I believe the owners club can even sell you a video showing you hw to service it.

also bear in mind there servicing and then full and proper servicing

if you can find a copy at a sensible price this will give you details of very full servicing - http://www.amazon.co.uk/MGB-Step-step-Service-Guid...

the excellent Driver's Handbook (not a manual) will also help with servicing and many other things you'll need to know about your purchase - (Ref: 0051) – http://www.mgocshop.co.uk/catalog/Online_Catalogue...

things like Haynes manuals I find as a non-mechanic to be unhelpful more times than helpful and they have errors in usually - Drivers's Handbook is better (but not for repairs or diagnostics)

for repairs - Workshop Manual (Ref: 0001) - http://www.mgocshop.co.uk/catalog/Workshop_Manuals... note I've never had this particular a copy

the Poter book will have diagnostics if it's the same as the Midget version

as for atricles on servicing im magazines I'm sure you know the over generalisation of those wink

you'll also want to find out about the 'donkey's dick'

op, you'll find it easier if you search for the camel's cock as opposed to the donkey's dick biglaugh

v8250,
it's always been the 'donkey's dick' to me but each to there own biggrin

I don't let on as it's a useful test to these long term B owners to see if they actually use the car to know about it smile

I'm putting neither into my search engine - although I once type in a Grand 'S' tyre to see if it was original to a 25 year old car and only got two results one of which directly link me to a site with all sorts of sexual practices

Thanks for the steer on the books - there seem to be lots out there but hard to judge the quality.

Hmm, donkey's dick eh? Boggling on all 4 cylinders.... smile

wow, you really are a jurno, superficial research smile

I’ve just checked, it's there, referred to as a 'T**'* ****' in the section about the air box, if it isn't cleared out you can get damp carpeting, driver's wet leg and passenger's wet right leg, misty windscreen or wet carpet and soundproofing leading to rust

I can overload you with notes if you want too, just PM me

have a look at the notes I post here to see if they're for you first, some find my notes OTT, annoying and more work than is required, none are technical

Thanks - looking forward to picking the car up on Saturday - but already I've become mildly obsessed with tracing its history, as there are so many gaps. I think I might be writing a letters to previous owners...

sounds like you already know you can get details of previous 'keepers' from the DVLA

And the MG experience has kicked in already: the damn thing wouldn't start after I opened (and then closed of course) the distributor cap to check the points. After two days of fiddling and checking with a multimeter, turns out the central HT lead wasn't very tightly lodged in the coil socket, and disconnected itself from the coil terminal when I disturbed it. Grr. Working now, though.
