From what I can tell on my 79' B there's a little plug in the tunnel BEHIND the radio and UNDER the dashboard.... And under that apparently there's a tiny little dip stick... Which is also the gear box refill...
But while working this out I discovered that the OD switch was broken, not the oil level.

So... Yeah. Who thought that was a good idea!?

In the end I gave up trying to access the stick, though apparently I might not actually have a dip stick, just a blank and a refill plug on the side?

No dipstick for the gearbox on a 79. Accessed from underneath on the drivers side, 3/4 inch nut.
If you need to fill or top up, run a piece of hose down through the engine bay, easier doing it from the top. smile

Internet research revealed as much to me... Which is a pity, I quite like the idea of being able to check the level without just shoving more in until it comes out the side... and I've got a oil pump thingy for topping up the gear box on my old car so that shouldn't be an issue... Getting under the car is right now though..

I've just put a hole (and grommet) in the side of the transmission tunnel of my 78. As I got fed up with groveling around under the car trying to level check and fill it.

if the car is new to you I'd suggest, along with loads of other stuff, changing the gearbox oil as this is very rarely done and can possibly improve things a loton gear and OD changes
