After owning my MG midget for 3 months , the half-shalfs have broken , the discs and pads have been changed , the brake master cylinder has failed , the rear wheel cylinders have sprung leaks over the shoes , replaced the drums , NOW the clutch has failed , so i am now replacing the cylinders

What next

hhhhhhhhhhmmmmmm
half shafts apart the rest is lack of previous regular and full servicing and maintenance and possibly lack of regular use

all the stuff is cheap compared to almost all cars to service and repair

if the clutch is hydraulics then again it wont be expensive

I always post about carry out a staged full 36k mile service check-up ASAP after buying the vehicle – plenty of examples on this forum, regulars are sick of seeing them

I also regularly put that one of the worse things about classics are the previous owners and (and this isn’t aimed at you) some current owners

I think I’ve offered before, if not I am now, if you want I have note I offer to new or potential owners hopefully to help as a daily classic owner for 20 years

quite often failings can come from some modern made parts or some current poor quality of work - which is the cause of my car being off the road at the moment poor quality work from a ‘specialist expert’ outfit that turned out to be just con and rip-off merchants

Spridgets even today are pretty good cars overall as classics depending on who’s had their hands on them during their lives

it's not bad luck, it's bad owners, parts and those that work on the cars

Use them or lose them, old cars need a run, your car will be cracker once all the bits n bobs that come with someone elses lack of time and use.

All fixed again , back on the road , waiting for the next thing to go wrong , fitting the slave cylinder was a bit tricky the master cylinder a piece of cake, getting that clutch rod central before pushing in the cylinder

Mike

Also where can i get a side mounted manual aerial , the last owner has put a aerial in the side of the rear wing

Mike prevention is better than cure, a full and proper 36k mile service/check up will prevent and discover a lot of things that might stop the car from working or being in good condition and working at its best - and it will make the car more reliable - along with regular driving of the car

some additional work when you first have the car usually will save a lot more work later

or you can just see what crops up and have the drama but please don't moan about it as it's what you planned for or rather didn't plan for smile

I'm not sure if you want a modern (flat) side mounted aerial or the classic pull up aerial but either is freely available going from eBay to specialist shops and suppliers
