I have seen a 2004 with 97,000 miles on the clock. The car has full service history and only two owners from new. It only has a months mot left on it. What specific things should i be looking out for and asking having never owned a diesel car before.

I have heard of numerous horror stories recently about DMF,s EGR's, injectors , fuel pumps etc are they true or are they simply just horror stories ?

Well went to look at the car, didnt like it at all. Horrendous rattle from the dash when the clutch released after changing gear, pulled to the left badly and overall just wasnt worth the gamble for me.

We use one for our engineers to thrash around in. Find a good one and it's basically bullet proof.

The problem is they are quite popular second hand and the "cheap car sellers" know this. We saw some horror stories before we bought ours - including rear lights held in with bathroom silicon after a botched bulb change and the car that had "never been in an accident" but was so badly and recently repaired that I laughed out loud when I saw it. There was even over spray sitting on top of the water collected under the bonnet in places. Needless to say, the vendor claimed ignorance!

If i had gone with my heart i would now be the owner of the car. I could see it had potential to be a really nice car with a little time spent on it. It did drive nicely and i would have never have known it had done the mileage that was showing on the dash. It went for £1800 which i think was a bit high for that car, but obviously someone else wanted it more than me and will probably be over the moon with it.
