Ok I'm either really unlucky or I'm still having problems with this newfangeld electricery stuff.

So am I right in thinking:

One wire goes in from the ignition switch, then wiggles around, and another wire takes it to the coil. Then one wire is a normal 12v in, and the other earthed?

If i am right then I have 2 faulty rev counters.

I wish I knew the answer as I have nearly finished my re-build to find that the Rev-Counter does not work, all wires are connected but nothing.
I await any advice you get.
Cheers
Nick

from the link you were previously given it said if you get it wrong you'll banjax your rev counter

I'll see if I can find the link

of course I'll also say for £8 you can get the Driver's Handbook with wiring diagrams and loads more info that you can pass on with the car for the next owner to benefit from too - http://www.mgocshop.co.uk/catalog/Online_Catalogue...

or you can get a DVD with factory Workshop Manuals, Parts Catalogues and Driver's Handbooks on which you could add to your information library (and charge to the business, get your VAT back on?)

If you have a Smiths RVI tachometer then your description is correct. Obviously you need the correct type of tachometer for you car - number of cylinders and positive/negative ground. The earlier RVI tachometers have an external current transformer where you have to wind one loop of the coil feed wire around the core and secure it with the nut. The direction of this loop is important, it will only work one way! Some latter instruments have a male and female bullet connector on the rear and the current transformer is internal, the the principal of operation is the same.
