As you know i bought a MG Midget a couple of months ago and i have been using it for work , going to work is a 30 mile round trip.

For some reason i feel very nervous driving it in traffic in the rush hour , its got to the stage that i pray the lights are green all the time . i tend to stick to the n/s of the road most of the time , everything passes me and when braking i have to be one step ahead as the modern brakes are far better .

The thing is i love the car , its only let me down once ( when i broke a half -shaft ) it goes well

Am i being silly or is the classic in todays world of motoring just a weekend toy

Is it the fear of the car being damaged or the fact that you're surrounded by huge cars while sitting in a tiny low sportscar?

IMHO just drive it and enjoy it. Any car can and sometimes will break down...if we as car owners can't repair on side of road...we all should have breakdown cover. That's what our AA/RAC memebership's for.

Mike, if it helps, the only classic/sports car that's ever let me down was my 3.0ltr 911; and it failed in grand style! Years ago on A34 near Oxford it threw a conrod through the cylinder and block...cost a fortune to repair [full rebuild]. Touch wood, never had a classic car fail since...

Little old A series will run for ever, carry screwdiver for the points (they slip and close up) and tyraps , 6" adjustable. The more u use it the better it will get.

Picked my MGB GT up from having a new clutch fitted today and there wasn't a lot of petrol in it. Stopped at a petrol station and filled up. Now it's either a coincidence or they were scraping the bottom of the super unleaded barrel but the car was running rough after leaving the petrol station...

So I'm driving along worrying whether I'll be calling the AA when a chap on a pushbike stops alongside me at a roundabout and compliments me on the car. You will think about breaking down and sometimes you will break down but the good feelings (for you and others) outweigh the bad!

Now I just need to work out the cause of the rough running and all will be well.
