MGB Type D overdrive not engaging
Discussion
Hi,
Just after a little help please, less than a week ago I aquired a MK1 1967 mgb gt with type d overdrive, previous owner experienced a problem several years ago with the overdrive but decided not to investigate.
Switch on dashboard was faulty so I replaced that and could hear the relay being activated, however no power was shown at the overdrive solenoid, so I ran a new supply from the relay to the solenoid, and success! Well not quite, the solenoid can now be heard clicking every time the dashboard switch was flicked.
Oil level is fine, but not changed for at least 15 years, so changed at the weekend, old stuff was black and stank
Can anyone suggest what to do next, as i feel I'm getting close to solving this ?
I'm grateful for any suggestions whatsoever.

for the car a full 36k mile service and regular use, details in the Driver's Handbook - Ref: 0050 or 0051 - http://www.mgocshop.co.uk/catalog/Online_Catalogue... plus change check/coolant, and change r/axle oil and brake/clutch fluids
anyway o/d these videos might help

ETA: when engaging or disengaging overdrive you do not dip the clutch or fully lift off the accelerator as you switch the o/d in or out as it requires load to operate properly
